Julia de Asensi was a Spanish author, journalist and translator of the late 19th and early 20th century. She established a literary salon in Barcelona that functioned as an intellectual meeting place for contemporary writers and cultural figures. Her work includes prose, poetry, children's literature and theatre, whereby she was strongly influenced by role models such as Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer, José Zorrilla and Fernán Caballero. She was best known for her leyendas and tradiciones. Despite her popularity during her lifetime, her work was rarely recognised posthumously.
