Pinar, Florencia

Little is known about the exact date and place of birth of Florencia Pinar, but she is believed to have lived in the second half of the 15th century and to have been a lady-in-waiting to the Catholic Monarchs, as evidenced by the fact that she is one of the few female authors of the Cancionero General. It was not until the 1980s that Florencia Pinar was perceived as an author of the late Spanish Middle Ages. She became known primarily for her figurative language and her own concept of the dichotomy of love as an expression of melancholy and devotion.
